Chinese New Year in Niseko goes off with a bang!

Two new lifts ready to roll in coming days

Over the past decade Niseko has firmly become a Chinese New Year holiday hotspot! And with that comes a lot of fun and celebration to mark the occasion for visitors

This year Chinese New Year is February 16, so expect Niseko to be full around this time.

Niseko Village will host the official fireworks display above the ski slope at midnight on February 15 outside the Hilton Niseko Village, by the gondola station. There will also be a traditional Japanese taiko drum performance at the flame in the lobby from 11:30pm until just before midnight.

Meanwhile there will be plenty of traditional Chinese celebrations going on around the resort. Keep an eye on local guides and be sure to ski down to Hanazono on February 16 for a lion dance performance.

Ski slopes are expected to be more crowded than usual, particularly on the beginner slopes. Please ski slowly and carefully through these areas.

Beginner skiers should book ski lessons before they arrive. See the resort’s official ski schools here.

Restaurants will also be at capacity. Be sure to book early as you may find it hard to get last-minute reservations. See in-resort and on-slope restaurants here.
