Hideaki Imaizumi, originally from Iwanai Town close to Niseko, is the head of school at Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU Ski School. He explains when he was in elementary school, he often came to ski at HIRAFU after school. This is his 22nd year as an instructor, and his 10th year at Grand Hirafu.
Grand HIRAFU has the most courses out of the Niseko United resorts, with a variety of slopes. Especially for kids, just skiing on this terrain can lead to significant improvement.
I like the Jumbo Course. Skiing towards Mt Yotei offers fantastic views.
I like the King Hooded Quad Lift #3 because it lets me ski my favourite Jumbo Course.
Aim for fresh powder snow first thing in the morning, then take a tea break after 10 am. Chatting about skiing while looking at the map over tea, planning where to ski next, is just wonderful.
Not just Grand HIRAFU but in the entire Niseko area, crossing under the ropes is prohibited. The patrol works hard for safety management, so never cross the ropes just because you want to ski there. Let’s all ski safely and enjoy!
If you want a leisurely break, I recommend Tanta An. I prefer to get back to skiing quickly, so I often have tea at King Bell Hut, rest a bit, and then go back skiing again.
Inside Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU, there are three rest houses: Tanta An, King Bell Hut, and Rest House Ace Hill. Each has its own unique menu, so changing up where you have lunch every day is also a good idea!
Like every year, I look forward to taking a bath in the hot spring and enjoying a delicious meal after skiing.
