A little advance planning means less time organizing once you’re here and more time enjoying the powder.

1. Niseko United Lift Passes

Let’s start with the essential: getting on the mountain.

Niseko United brings together four interconnected resorts: Niseko Hanazono, Niseko Tokyu Grand HIRAFU, Niseko Village and Annupuri International Ski Area. For the 2026–27 season, all four resorts are scheduled to open from November 28, 2026, with Night Skiing scheduled to begin from December 12, 2026 to March 22, 2027.

The Niseko United All Mountain Pass provides access across all four resorts, as well as complimentary transportation between resorts, making it easy for visitors to explore the mountain throughout the stay.

Buying the lift pass online also allows you to skip the line at the ticket counter and currently offers an average saving of around 5% compared to purchasing at the ticket window.

2.Ski & Snowboard Lessons

First time skiing? Bringing the kids? Or looking to take your powder technique to another level?

Ski and snowboard lessons are worth arranging before you arrive, particularly during Christmas, New Year, Chinese New Year and the peak January–February period.

All four of Niseko United resorts operate ski schools, with options catering to different ages and abilities. Lessons aren’t only for beginners either. Experienced skiers and snowboarders can use the help of experienced instructors to enhance their technique and build confidence in Niseko’s conditions.

3. Ski & Snowboard Equipment

Travelling without skis or a snowboard makes getting to Hokkaido considerably easier, but don’t wait until you arrive to think about rentals.

Booking your equipment ahead gives you a better chance of securing the equipment and the sizes you need, particularly if you’re travelling with children or a larger group.

Depending on your rental provider, you may be able to arrange everything from skis and snowboards to boots, helmets and higher-performance equipment.

If you’re skiing for several days, organize your rental period around your first and last ski days so you’re ready to go when the lifts open.

4. Airport Transfers

After a long flight, the last thing you want to do is to figure out how to reach Niseko with luggage and ski equipment.

New Chitose Airport is the main gateway to Niseko, with winter access by bus, private transfer, train and rental car. The convenient direct shuttle services require reservations, with 2026–27 reservations currently expected to open around October.

This winter, access from North America is also getting easier, with new direct services scheduled from San Francisco to New Chitose Airport from December 11 and Vancouver from December 17.

TIP: Allow enough time between your flight arrival and scheduled transfer for immigration, baggage collection and collecting oversized ski luggage.

5. Restaurants

Niseko’s food scene has become almost as much a part of the experience as its powder.

You don’t have to spend every day on skis.

Adding an off-slope activity is particularly worthwhile for families, mixed groups of skiers and non-skiers, or anyone staying for a week or longer.
