Niseko’s ongoing evolution as one of the world’s premier ski destinations is set to continue, with both Niseko Village and Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area announcing major gondola upgrades over the coming years. Together, the projects represent a significant investment in mountain infrastructure that will improve capacity, comfort, and the overall guest experience across the Niseko United resort network.

Niseko Village is moving ahead with the construction of its new eight-passenger Mori-no Gondola, a project that will replace the existing Mori-no Chair double lift. Stretching approximately 2km, the new gondola will connect the resort base with upper mountain terrain in two phases. The first section, reaching an elevation of 670 metres, is scheduled to open for the 2026/27 winter season, while the second section extending to approximately 930 metres is expected to follow in 2027.
The upgrade will significantly improve uphill capacity while providing guests with a faster, more comfortable ride. Once complete, the new lift will streamline access to some of Niseko Village’s most popular terrain and strengthen the resort’s appeal as a year-round destination.

Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area has revealed plans for a complete replacement of its iconic gondola ahead of the 2028/29 season. The existing gondola, which has been operating since 1985, will be retired in favour of a modern system designed to nearly double transport capacity. Current plans call for capacity to increase from approximately 1,440 passengers per hour to around 2,800 passengers per hour.
The new gondola will continue to provide access from the resort base to Annupuri’s upper mountain terrain while reducing wait times and improving reliability during peak periods. The project represents one of the most significant infrastructure investments in Annupuri’s recent history and reflects growing demand across the wider Niseko region.

The latest announcements are part of a wider wave of investment across Niseko United, as the region continues to modernise and enhance its on-mountain experience. Grand Hirafu recently unveiled its state-of-the-art 10-person Ace Gondola, while Hanazono continues to expand its lift network and year-round offerings, including the innovative gondola connection to neighbouring Weiss Mountain.
For skiers and snowboarders, the benefits are clear: faster access to terrain, greater comfort and a smoother experience moving around the mountain. For Niseko United as a whole, the projects reinforce the region’s position as Asia’s leading alpine destination and demonstrate a long-term commitment to maintaining world-class resort infrastructure.
With major investments now underway across multiple resorts, visitors can look forward to an even more seamless Niseko United experience in the years ahead.
