Niseko’s lift infrastructure overhaul continues this winter with two new modern lifts completed and ready to open on schedule this winter. Both are beginner lifts – one upgrade/extension in Grand Hirafu, and the other an all-new lift line in Annupuri.
Hirafu’s Ace Family Pair has been upgraded to a high-speed detachable quad that will primarily service the Family Run. The lift starts at the same point but runs 300m further uphill, travelling at more than three times the speed, while slowing right down at the pickup and dropoff points.
Grand Hirafu spokesperson Ryunosuke Tanaka said construction had been finalised and the lift would begin operation once the lower half of the mountain was open to skiers. “We plan to open the full resort by 1 December, including the new Ace Family Quad Lift if there is 80-100cm on the Family Run. Currently there is 50cm, but should it continue as it has been, we may open earlier.”
Annupuri’s new lift – the Dream Quad #1 – is an all new lift line that runs from the gondola to just above the Northern Resort Annupuri Hotel, halfway up the existing Family Run. Beginners previously needed to ride the Jumbo #1 Quad lift and alight more than halfway up the mountain in order to enjoy the slopes. This new lift will allow access to a short, wide and comfortable portion of the resort, and allow improved access to piste-side restaurants and ski-in facilities.
Annupuri Resort spokesperson Toshiyuki Shimizu said they were confident the resort would open on schedule this Saturday, with the Dream Quad #1 expected to begin operation on 1 December.
Niseko United’s resorts have all been reviewing and upgrading lifts in recent years, with eight lifts and gondolas built or upgraded over the past 10 years, and at least eight more planned over the next three years.
Niseko’s fastest growing new market sector is beginner skiers and families. Much of the new lift infrastructure improves and opens up more beginner and intermediate terrain, continuing to ensure Niseko is the perfect destination for snow lovers from across the world.
