Just as the first snow settles at the start of next winter, tourism ministers from the G20 group of countries will meet for a tourism summit at the base of Hanazono. The meeting will take place on October 25-26 at the newly opened Park Hyatt Niseko HANAZONO Hotel.
The G20 Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy is held every year to discuss the critical issues affecting the global economy, and it brings together the members of the G7 and 13 other countries. This international conference will discuss international themes in the tourism field based on the world tourism market and trends in tourism policy in each country. Tourism Ministers and representatives of tourism-related organizations from each G20 country will participate.
Why Niseko?
Kutchan town in the Niseko area seems like a small destination to many to hold such an important meeting with international world leaders in tourism. However, Niseko epitomizes exactly what this meeting is about. The Niseko area is a perfect example of an area with a quickly growing international and domestic tourism business. Niseko’s tourism has boomed in recent years, building many luxury accommodations and expansions that are transforming the area into a premier all-season international resort destination. Niseko’s residents and governments are working together to create new developments and increase tourism in a way that is sustainable.
About G20
The G20 Summit on Financial Markets and the World Economy is held every year to discuss the critical issues affecting the global economy, and it brings together the members of the G7 (France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada and the European Union), as well as Argentina, Australia, Brazil, China, India, Indonesia, Mexico, the Republic of Korea, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, and Turkey. The participating nations represent 80% of the global gross domestic product. In recent years the G20 Summit has dealt with a wide range of issues facing the global community, including development, climate and energy, digital economy, and employment in addition to the world economy. Ministerial meetings discussing related themes are also held during the host year. Niseko is proud to host this year’s G20 Ministers Meeting on Tourism.
